This is, hands down, one of the most beautiful buildings I have come across in my life - The São Paulo Cathedral.

The Sao Paulo Cathedral is also known as the Catedral da Sé de São Paulo and is the largest in South America.

The Catedral da Sé de São Paulo also holds the title of being one of the largest Neo-Gothic cathedrals in the world with a staggering capacity of more than 8,000 people.

Building of this breath-taking structure began in 1913 after being designed by a German man named Maximilian Emil Hehl and was completed in 1967, replacing the previous structure which was constructed in the 18th century.

The current cathedral was built using over 800 tons of marble and sits at 111 metres long, 46 metres wide and the two towers reach a height of 92 metres.

All the mosaics, sculptures, and furnishings arrived by ship from Italy.

The crypt, located below the main altar is so large it has been described as being its own underground Church.

It is decorated with marble sculptures by Francisco Leopoldo e Silva.

The crypt contains the tombs of all bishops and archbishops of São Paulo along side other historically important people.

The cathedral is situated just under 14 miles from Guarulhos Airport, is free to enter and is open between 8AM and 7PM.
